I love having short hair! I am going to cut my hair again. Shorter this time, for the summer. I will end up dying it blonde too, in June when I get back from Peru. I'll stay with whatever I've got until then. I need to get some opinions. Which one do you think would look best on me?
I was supposed to be playing all weekend but I finally gave myself a kick in the rear. My goal this past year was to take the GRE, and as of yet it still remains to be done. I want to go back to grad school NOW but can't until I get that thing under my belt. Last Fall I even had my applications filled out and some turned it but still no GRE. Instead of playing this weekend, it being a marvelous day, I stayed inside to study and finish the assignments of the GRE prep course I am taking. It took me all day until about 10PM to catch up to where I should be. I've been busy all the time, running here and there.
A couple weeks ago I went and visited my brother in Pittsburgh. I came home Tuesday night, worked the next day and then went to see Death Cab for Cutie with a friend of mine. Made some new friends as well.
Friday night I worked in the garden during the day, and then went up to Baltimore to watch an Orioles game.
This week I met up with some friends for Sushi. I used to really abhor it passionately. I still can't eat the ginger, I gag on it. Every time I eat sushi I like it even more. The next evening I took myself to a musical, Ragtime, at the Kennedy Center. It was very last minute, and I went by myself. Sometimes I find a relief to have some "ME" time, going at my own pace, giving me time to think, and relax. I loved it! It was really fantastic. One of my friends, Katie, we had a Safari date last week on Friday- she had convinced me to see Ragtime. (She went on a Safari and that is my dream vacation for next summer 2010). We got Chipotole, watched the video that was made from her trip. We were chatting away and she told me about Ragtime. It is was one of her favorites because not only is it entertaining but it has a moral. So I have to mention in the shuttle on the way back to the metro several middle and older couples we talking about our Ragtime at the Kennedy Center being the best they had seen compared to other times it had been performed.
This is the opening song Broadway style (mine was better):
I believe I have a green thumb. "Mary Mary quite contrary how does your garden grow. With silver bells and cockle shells, and pretty maids all in a row." So my own version of the song would be: "Simoney, Simoney quite splendidly nifty How does your garden grow. With little pumpkins, watermelons, carrots, and yellow squash. Some zuchini, cucumbers, peas, and long beans too."
I went to a staff meeting this morning for work. I want to be a good employee or demonstrate that I am good employee, as I sat there I looked down at my drink bottle. The slogan on the bottle caught my eye, "As in life, for best results CHILL." hmmm....right, exactly, whoever put that slogan on the bottle is a genius. I can get really worked up or anxious about things, it was perfect for me to see that at that very moment in time.
A moment of reflection, I've learned so many things from my ex. At one point in time he had said to me, I hope you don't look back on this relationship as a whole with regret. I can now officially say I haven't. I learned something significant from him that is most recently reinforced. It has been reinforced by a book I started, "The Joseph Smith Papers." Even as imperfect as we are, all the mistakes we make, we can still have an intimate relationship with the Lord and constantly receive our own personal revelations. CHILL...is a good word to tell myself when I get upset about where I am not and want to be. All in time, take one step at a time, baby steps, take is easay.
I went to Pittsburgh again. Marta was turning 2. She isn't really like any other two year old. Okay, I know that every child is unique, no one is quite the same with each having their own little spirit. But since Marta has an such an active, boisterous older sister, in order to be heard or noticed Marta has to keep up with her big sister. Marta runs around like one of the bigger kids, goes down the big slides, and really isn't a baby because she has a 8 months old baby brother.
I danced away with them to all kinds of music, even a little Queen. Thomasin would look at me inquisitively when I sang along to some of Queen's songs. We went to the Dinosaur museum, cooked, played, watched conference, and celebrated.
Growing up my mom would let us choose a specific cake or design that we wanted. I remember that very vividly. I would really like to do the same and since I don't have my own children, I wanted to be able to share the same memories with some little babies that I was close to.
The girls aren't really fans of cake but they are ice cream lovers. Marta loved looking at the Butterfly cake, and blowing out the candles, but eating it was another story. Maybe Thomasin loved it more, and she whispered to her mommy that when it was her birthday she wanted a Santa Claus cake. Marta and Thomasin ate up the ice cream, and to show how much Marta loved the ice cream she licked it off the plate all around the cake. She tasted the cake but ended up spitting it out with that 'yuck' expression on her face!
What a wonderful world, and such a beautiful weekend!
Very seldom in my childhood did I ever go to the Circus, at least to my remembrance. I don't have a very good memory of my childhood so I from my recollection I only went once. In response, when I found out that the circus in town, I convinced my friend to take me to the circus. Besides the childish pun, and nature of the humor and jokes some of the stuff entertainment was fabulous. But I didn't get my cotton candy...it was too expensive when I went as a kid but now it was even more expensive :(
I bought some frozen yogurt this weekend from Safeway. It was Mango Swirl but the best part about it was the fact that it said 'Tart.' I am always willing to experiment and try something new when it comes to food. The one thing that I loved (well that isn't necessary true) in all my travels is the frozen yogurt that I bought at the stores in New Zealand, because it had a tart flavor to it. This Edy's ice cream was all I asked for and more, very tart and delicious!
I spent several hours on Saturday driving downtown. I rarely go downtown because I don't work there and when I go it takes a huge effort. I had been procrastinating this venture since I returned from SE Asia. My camera flash broke at the end of my trip. Since I just got in December it was still under warranty. There is only one certified Nikon camera repair place close to where I live and it just so happened to be in DC. My other reason is one I am ashamed to admit and will be paying for a while. I made a ridiculous investment in what I thought a extremely unique Orange Sapphire ring. I had heard that I could buy it and then sell it back home making a huge profit from it. So my other venture was to hit up some jewelry shops to try to sell it. I didn't end up selling it, and now I will wear that ring everyday as a reminder to never make stupid financial investments and purchases.
I had a beautiful drive downtown even with all the traffic. The weather was great, I saw things and drove down streets that I'd never been on before and places I'd been but didn't really know where they were located. On my drive I happened to drive by the zoo. Ding! It hit me. This s my "aha" moment. I had to laugh at myself. Zoo is short for Zoology. Which is the branch of biology that focuses on the structure, function, behavior, and evolution of animals. Hence, the zoo is a place to study the animals, and display them at the same time.
That night my roommate and I went to a Pirate party. A friend, Abby Croshaw, was having a belated birthday party. I love theme parties. I really like dressing up and hanging out with my friends.
When I first moved out here from Cali I went to a Pirate party that Abby and her roommates had hosted so this is the 2nd annual. I've lived in this area consecutively longer now than any place since I've graduated from high school. I love this area, I love the people I've met and my roommates. I love the East Coast. It was the best move for me. It was the start of moral and theme that my brother had tried to instill in me and encourage me for a year in which I was unwilling to accept that being to "keep moving forward."
Have you ever thought the two, golf and snow boarding would coincide so well? I went with a couple of my buddies in January snow boarding at Ski Liberty. When we pulled up I was amazed because we saw golfers and green grass right next to the man-made snow and slopes. But all the same we made an great afternoon of it. I am not very good by any means but I am a hopeful. I'd love to learn if someone I know was a good teacher, and had the patience to work with me.
I love art! I discovered a passion for it while I was in Vietnam. I know this is pirating but in Hanoi artists line the street with little shops. The artists sell knock of pieces of art. They sell large 24 X 48 pieces of whoever you like (Monet, vangough or any such artist) for $20. If I had the time to start a business I would have started a website and advertised myself selling whatever piece of work any one willing to pay $100 for them. I mean these are really amazing "replicas." Anyways, this actually a photo of a painting that I bought in Siem Reap, Cambodia.
My yard has a large area for a garden. I've really wanted to grow a garden with veggies and herbs for years, but always had the excuse that I didn't have the yard to plant anything. One of the reasons why I was so excited to move into my house was the fact that it had a beautiful yard, and fertile soil to grow vegatable (out landlord grew all kinds). I begun with a few herbs and a couple melon/pumpkin plants in a little indoor garden box. It has been a couple weeks since the planting and my results are 2 pumpkin, 1 melon, and lots of sweet basil, fewer lime and thai basil. Sadly I have absolutely no rosemary or sage. I bought potting soil yesterday and transplanted the bigger plants to the pots. Hopefuly in another coulple weeks I'll be free of the worry of a frost and I can transfer them all outside. I am really excited. The other day it was gorgeous outside. I spent several hours weeding, hoeing the garden, as well as weeding parts of our yard. I never realized how much work a yard is initially in the Spring. My mother always did a fabulous job with our yard, she is a natural, my father included, in landscaping. They do it all themselves, no one is hired to do it for them. I enjoyed my afternoon in the sun...all the while listening to "Great Expectations" by Charles Dickens.
Living my dreams!!!My moto: Come what may and love it! Let go! If you focus on what you left behind, you will never see what lies ahead. Go up, and look around! -Gustoff says to Remi in Disney's 'Ratatouille'.
